Cthulhu Cultist Obsidian Knife and Talisman Sculpture
Replica of Cthulhu cultist obsidian knife, sheath, and possible Ithaqua/Windwalker amulet obtained during Albert Arnold Mill’s Alaskan Expedition of 1935. Items are of indeterminate age, made from locally obtained materials; obsidian, walrus ivory, caribou, and Snowshoe hare. Both items stylistically bear some similarity to artwork of indigenous peoples of the Northwestern part of North America, and are suggestive of their Sino-Siberian ancestry.
Notes from Mill’s diary from June through August 1935 describe an expedition to the interior of Northern Alaska Mill had made after conversations with Stephen Jones, who was a fellow resident of London, a dilettante and sometime collector and seller of macabre artworks and artifacts from whom Mill had obtained a number of artifacts.
Dagger and talisman are cast in resin, knife sheath is real leather and fur hide. Created by artist Joe Broers.
